Jason Smith is a dedicated attorney, educator, and community leader with a passion for justice and mentorship. Born and raised in Marion County, Florida, Jason developed a strong work ethic and a commitment to serving others from an early age. His academic and athletic pursuits led him to Flagler College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. During his time at Flagler, Jason played collegiate baseball, an experience that instilled in him the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. His love for the game extended beyond his playing years, as he later coached baseball at St. Augustine High School, where he mentored young athletes both on and off the field.
Determined to make a lasting impact in the legal field, Jason pursued his Juris Doctor at
Regent University School of Law, graduating in 2005. Shortly thereafter, he embarked on his legal career as a State Prosecutor in Hernando County for the 5th Judicial Circuit. In this role, Jason gained invaluable courtroom experience, handling thousands of criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. His time as a prosecutor provided him with firsthand insight into the complexities of the criminal justice system, shaping his approach to advocacy and trial strategy.
Throughout his legal career, Jason has successfully tried numerous cases before a jury,
including charges of driving under the influence, drug possession and distribution,
attempted second-degree murder, felony animal cruelty, bank robbery, and second-
degree murder. His extensive experience in criminal litigation has made him a highly
skilled trial attorney, known for his thorough case preparation, sharp legal acumen, and
unwavering dedication to justice.
Beyond his legal practice, Jason is passionate about education and mentorship. He
teaches paralegal and criminal justice courses at Pasco-Hernando State College.
Additionally, he has taught as an adjunct professor at Saint Leo University. His courses
cover fundamental legal subjects, including constitutional criminal procedure, criminal
law, evidence and trial practice, and organized crime. Jason finds great fulfillment in
equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in law
and criminal justice. His ability to connect theoretical concepts to real-world legal practice has made him a highly respected educator among his students and colleagues.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jason is deeply committed to giving
back to his community. He currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors at Jericho Road Ministries, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing assistance
and support to individuals facing homelessness, addiction, and other hardships.
His community involvement extends even further. He has previously been an active
member of the Kiwanis Club, an organization devoted to community service and youth development, and the Citrus-Hernando Inns of Court, a professional association that
fosters mentorship and legal education among attorneys and judges. Additionally, Jason
has served as a judge for Hernando County Teen Court, a diversion program that offers
young offenders a second chance by allowing them to take responsibility for their
actions through peer-led court proceedings. His work with Teen Court has given him the
opportunity to guide and mentor young individuals, helping them make better choices for their future.
Despite his demanding professional and community responsibilities, Jason prioritizes his family above all else. He resides in Hernando County with his wife and children, cherishing the time spent with them. Whether coaching a little league game,
volunteering for a local cause, or enjoying outdoor activities with his family, Jason remains deeply rooted in the values of integrity, service, and leadership.
Jason’s career is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the law, education, and community service. His diverse experiences—as a prosecutor, private attorney, educator, and nonprofit leader—have shaped him into a well-rounded and highly respected legal professional. Whether advocating in the courtroom, teaching in the classroom, or mentoring individuals in his community, Jason continues to make a profound and positive impact on those around him.
